“MOHN-STARS”

Hello Fellow Mohns…..After discovering Eva Mohn and her sister, I looked for other up and coming Mohn stars and some that have been around a while and are very sucessful.

Click on her name to check out Melinda Mohn, a singer. Next try Dave Mohn, a drummer. Try Jarl Mohn, a rising executive. Then there’s Jesse Mohn , an illustrator and writer. The very famous Reinhard Mohn, now retired from the largest media group in Europe, part owner of Sony, owner of BMG Music. Also, Eric Mohn, a watercolor artist.

That’s enough for now. We’ll find some new Mohns to profile another time. Here’s hoping every Mohn every where is having a fantastic day.:-P

    Jer!!

Welcome to our Mohn family. Always great to meet a fellow “Mohn.” Eva and Linnea are my nieces, so I can only agree with you as to their talents. :-)

Our “Mohn” branch originates from just south of Minneapolis, MN (via Eidvoll, Norway in appx 1869). As chance might have it, my wife and kids and I moved to Charlotte, NC appx 3 years ago. Small world. Feel free to visit.

    Eric,

Thanks Eric….Charlotte, huh? That’s a nice city. I use to work out of Rock Hill, SC, just down the road. You may run into some Mohns in NC. Most of them pronounce it like it rhymes with John. There was a Chris Mohn that played for UNC-Asheville and he pronounced it like it rhymed with moon. I bet you pronounce yours like it rhymes with Joan, huh? Like I said, I’ve been pronouncing & spelling those 4 little letters all my life.
We do have plans to move back to Western NC some time in the future. If I’m ever in Charlotte, I’ll look you up! Thanks for the message.

Hi Jer – Was browsing the web and saw my name mentioned (Melinda Mohn) in your Google link to this page – HOW COOL!!! My dad was born Edward Mohn in Corpus Christie Texas but am told his family originally settled in the deep south…but I also believe all
Mohns are related – so howdy cousin!! I live in Seattle currently- the moon pronunciation of Mohn is very German – sometimes the German Mohns put an umlaut over the “o”…I spent sometime in France with my parents when I was very young and the French pronounce it to rhyme with Joan and I always pronounce it to rhyme with John….

but the name Mohn actually does relate to the moon – as well as the poppy flower…..this is a wonderful site isn’t it?!

    All the best

    Melinda

    Melinda,

A welcome to any “Mohn” cousins, even those from the ‘german’ branch. :-) The german and norweigan versions of “Mohn” seem the most common. In our family it has always been pronouned like “Joan” with its root in the norweigan “Moen” (meaning a heath or tree-less clearing).

    Best wishes.

    Eric,
